JULA Festival
JULA festival is an international youth theater and music festival that has been held annually in Munich since 2004 and is organised entirely by volunteers.
„Jula“ means a toy from Russian – a spinning top – that every child owned in their childhood. The diversity of JULA festival is similar to this toy: once set in motion, it always fascinates with its dynamism and play of colors and makes it impossible to tear yourself away from it. The festival has been captivating for 16 years and offers a varied and artistically high-class cultural program 5 days long!
International theaters of renowned ensembles offer various performances every evening. Multicultural photo exhibition accompanies visitors with moving and thought-provoking photos. Numerous workshops and concerts by popular bands from Eastern Europe invite everyone to enjoy the cultural program on the weekend. A short film program by young filmmakers from all over Europe rounds of the festival’s program.
The organising team of the festival consists of two parts. The main team takes on long-term planning and coordinates the organisation of the festival throughout the year. As part of the Germany-wide advertised volunteer program for young people, around 60 volunteers make a significant contribution to the success of the events during the festival.
The JULA festival combines artistic and integrative aspects in a unique way. It brings German and international artists and visitors together, enriches cultural exchange and strengthens the opportunities for participation for all people with and without a migration background.
In 2020 the festival will not take place in full format, but we really hope to see each other again next year!
Lovely greetings,
JULA team
